Slower Paced Duck and Goose Sculpture Workshop
Sunday 31st May
10am-4pm
British Trust for Ornithology Thetford
Sculpt your own Duck for the garden, or indoor display.
This is a slower paced sculpture workshop. Ducks and Geese are smaller sculptures and use finer willow which is easier on the hands. Unlike our large animal sculptures, which require a fairly busy day and quite big willow rods to create, this sculpture can be made at a slower pace with lots of time to rest and contemplate your work. If you have issues with your hands or other mobility concerns, or just like to work at a slower pace - with lots of tea breaks - then this is a great, pressure free, workshop for you. You could also always make a duckling if you finish quickly!
The ducks sit on feet with longer willow below which can be pushed into the ground to stablise them.
We work in small friendly groups, with a break for coffee/tea and cake and lunch.
We work with willow which has been grown in Somerset and specially dried. In order to be suitable for weaving it is then soaked to make it pliable. Wherever possible we try to have a variety of willows available for colour variation. We also have one or two varieties which are especially soft and easy to weave, if you have especial concerns about weaving let us know and we will make sure we have some softer willows.
There is no age limit but children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent.
Tools will be provided, but if you have them please bring:
Sharp secateurs or garden scissors (many people prefer using ones they are used to)
A pruning knife if you have one
