Product Description

Willow Weaving Workshops at the Yorkshire Craft Festival.

Parliament Street, York 10-14th April

Come along and create your own handwoven willow sculptures and garden decorations with willow artist Toni Cross.

A whole series of workshops are available, including plant obelisks, dragonflies, flying swallows, mini sculptures and growing Harlequin Trees.

In and around the scheduled workshops Toni will be running short drop-in sessions to make flowers, wreaths and even willow wands for the little ones. Just come along outside of the workshop times below, or all day from 1pm on Saturday. There is no need to book, although we may need to ask you to wait or return if it is very busy.

Drop In Workshops

Just pop along without booking-or stay on after a booked workshop!

Wands for little ones £3

Mini Flowers £5

Colourful Wreath to decorate at home £5

All of these can be started any time, and take between 5 and 20 minutes to complete.

We work with willow which has been grown in Somerset and specially dried. In order to be suitable for weaving it is then soaked to make it pliable, or sometimes with fresh unsoaked willow in very early spring. The willow we use for most workshops will not grow. Harlequin Trees are made from fresh willow which will root and grow.

There is no age limit but children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent.

Willow is a lovely medium to work with and most people find weaving relaxing and therapeutic. However, it can be quite hard on the fingers. We can find ways to alleviate this for most people, but if you have arthritis or other mobility issues you might want to discuss this with Toni first to see what help we can offer.
